Certified Translation for Immigration Attorneys

Legal Translation of Secondary Evidence

Professional translation services and certified translations of immigration documents are paramount for immigration lawyers, who routinely deal with foreign language documents, document translation requirements for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS, formerly know as the INS- the Immigration and Naturalization Service), and non-English-speaking clients.  One of the most essential components to the immigration process is secondary evidence. Secondary evidence includes such things as a birth certificate, degrees, health records and employment qualifications. Due to the nature of the immigration process, more often than not these pieces of secondary evidence are in a foreign language, and, therefore, require translation.

In order to succeed in an immigration case – at least in the United States – all these essential foreign-language documents for the USCIS must be filed with an accompanying English language translation. In order to ensure the translation from the foreign language is accurate, a certification that the translation is true and accurate must be included.

Translations. Any document containing foreign language submitted to the Service shall be accompanied by a full English language translation which the translator has certified as complete and accurate, and by the translator’s certification that he or she is competent to translate from the foreign language into English.  8 C.F.R. 103.2(b)(3)
